Blame it on Rio...errr...el Niño

by Janet Crain

It has always been conventional wisdom in Texas that anyone who tries to predict the weather is either a fool or a newcomer.

Consider the following prediction made just two months ago. Now the same people are trying to blame el Niño because it is so extremely cold. Will they ever learn? Are the fools or new comers or just Al Gore true believers?

UK Met Office: Global warming plus El Niño means it’s “more likely than not that 2010 will be the warmest year in the instrumental record.”

Barring a major volcano, of course

December 11, 2009

The UK’s Met Office (originally the Meteorological Office), which is part of its Ministry of Defence, predicted yesterday on its website:

A combination of man-made global warming and a moderate warming of the tropical Pacific Ocean, a phenomenon known as El Niño, means it is very likely that 2010 will be a warmer year globally than 2009.

Recently released figures confirm that 2009 is expected to be the fifth-warmest year in the instrumental record that dates back to 1850.

The latest forecast from our climate scientists, shows the global temperature is forecast to be almost 0.6 °C above the 1961–90 long-term average. This means that it is more likely than not that 2010 will be the warmest year in the instrumental record, beating the previous record year which was 1998.

Waiting is No Game...........

Do you really think the FLOTUS will wait until she is 50 to get her first mammogram?

Or any Senators, Representatives or spouses? This new government recommendation is just for the great unwashed prolitariat. It doesn't apply to the HOITI TOITI. And the recommendation would become a regulation under Obamacare.

Oh, Say Can You See........Where We Are Going????

Hat Tip: SSW

The anger builds

Last Updated: 10:46 AM, February 19, 2010

Think Americans are angry at Washington today? Just you wait.

Even as President Obama yesterday formed a panel of Washington graybeards to find ways to control the national debt, the Government Accountability Office was reporting in eye-popping detail on a $5 billion "stimulus" program to weatherize the homes of some 600,000 low-income families.

The point, purportedly, was to increase energy efficiency and create "green jobs" -- whatever they may be.

But GAO found that, as of Dec. 31 (nearly a year into the program), barely 9,000 homes had, in fact, been weatherized.

The problem? The bill contained, among other flaws, a mandate that everybody hired to do work on the homes be paid a "prevailing wage" -- which snarled the program in red tape for months as Energy Department bureaucrats came up with such a figure for every county in the nation.

How many "green jobs" could 9,000 houses have created?

Plenty -- for the aforementioned bureaucrats: ABC News reports that, despite the mere trickle of actual work going on, DOE had burned through a whopping $522 million for the program, or more than 10 percent of its stimulus pot.

Now, not to oversimplify things, but that works out to roughly $57,000 per weatherized home.

Meanwhile, a recent report by Texas Watchdog found that of the $3.7 million that state had spent through the program last year, $3.5 million -- or 95 percent -- went to administrative costs.

All in all, the scheme is functioning . . . about as you'd expect a government program would.

But while this kind of waste is annoying in good times, it's intolerable now -- and goes a long way toward explaining why Americans en masse have stopped believing their government has their best interests at heart.

Companies Bailing Out of Global Warming Lobbying Groups

Three big companies quit an influential lobbying group that had focused on shaping climate-change legislation, in the latest sign that support for an ambitious bill is melting away.

BP PLC and two other major firms quit a lobbying group focused on shaping global-warming policy.

ConocoPhillips and heavy-equipment maker Caterpillar Inc. said Tuesday they won't renew their membership in the three-year-old U.S. Climate Action Partnership, a broad business-environmental coalition that had been instrumental in building support in Washington for capping emissions of greenhouse gases.

The move comes as debate over climate change intensifies and concerns mount about the cost of capping greenhouse-gas emissions.

Global Warming by any other name still stinks!!!

Calling Global Warming Climate Change is just not going to cut the mustard with John Q. Public. We have always had Climate Change and everyone above the age of 6 realizes that. Telling a child to not eat hamburgers because it is going to cause (gasp!) Climate Change is just not going to induce fear and trembling as Al Gore's scary prognostics. So get a(nother) life Big Guy. The jig is up. Come out from behind the curtain. Give back your shiny Nobel and the money. Buy everybody a hamburger til it is used up. You lied, you lied, you lied. Your pants are permanently on fire. I am glad I am not wearing them. Wanta see Global Warming look in Al Gore's pants. No thanks, I'll pass!!!

Climategate U-turn

Scientist at center of row admits: There has been no global warming since 1995

By Jonathan Petre
Last updated at 5:12 PM on 14th February 2010

  • Data for vital 'hockey stick graph' has gone missing
  • There has been no global warming since 1995
  • Warming periods have happened before - but NOT due to man-made changes
Professor Phil Jones

Data: Professor Phil Jones admitted his record keeping is 'not as good as it should be'

The academic at the centre of the ‘Climategate’ affair, whose raw data is crucial to the theory of climate change, has admitted that he has trouble ‘keeping track’ of the information.

Colleagues say that the reason Professor Phil Jones has refused Freedom of Information requests is that he may have actually lost the relevant papers.

Professor Jones told the BBC yesterday there was truth in the observations of colleagues that he lacked organisational skills, that his office was swamped with piles of paper and that his record keeping is ‘not as good as it should be’.

The data is crucial to the famous ‘hockey stick graph’ used by climate change advocates to support the theory.

Professor Jones also conceded the possibility that the world was warmer in medieval times than now – suggesting global warming may not be a man-made phenomenon.

And he said that for the past 15 years there has been no ‘statistically significant’ warming.

Sarah Palin, Daughter Respond to Family Guy Show's Mocking Disabled Son

by Steven Ertelt
LifeNews.com Editor
February 16
, 2010

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Sarah Palin and her daughter Bristol are responding to comments on the Fox show "Family Guy" belittling her family and her disabled son Trig. Although Palin is a contributor for Fox News Channel that hasn't stopped her from criticizing the show on sister company Fox Broadcasting.

Palin, via her Facebook page, complained that the "Family Guy program delivered “another kick in the gut” with a joke targeting her family.

In Sunday’s episode, “Family Guy” shows a girl with Down syndrome saying, “My dad is an accountant and my mom is the former governor of Alaska.”

Palin’s son Trig has Down syndrome and she expressed her frustrations on Facebook, saying “Fox Hollywood — what a disappointment.”

Last night, she posted another response that featured her daughter giving her thoughts on the controversy.

"People are asking me to comment on yesterday’s Fox show that felt like another kick in the gut," Palin wrote. "Bristol was one who asked what I thought of the show that mocked her baby brother, Trig (and/or others with special needs), in an episode."

"Instead of answering, I asked her what she thought. Here is her conscientious reply, which is a much more restrained and gracious statement than I want to make," she said.

Global Warming: Al Give Back the Nobel

Hat Tip: Laree
by Janet Crain
Good thing Americans have such a great sense of humor or else they would rise up in arms against the doomsayers who said Global Warming (later changed to Climate Change) was going to kill us all. Well, we are seeing Climate Change, but no Global Warming. Climate Change is nothing new and it is not man made. Climate Change has been occurring since the beginning of time and will no doubt continue to occur.

But let's take a look at this great video by a very talented young man and some of his friends in Minnesota.

For a job that pays nothing, being FLOTUS has some darn good benefits. Flying all over the world on a super luxurious jet, meeting royalty and celebrities, living in a fabulous historical mansion, and looking forward to having ghosted writing an eight figure advance book post FLOTUS.

"The truth is, in order to get things like universal health care and a revamped education system, then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more." - -- Michelle Obama

"In my own life in my own small way, I have tried to give back to this country that has given me so much," she said. "See, that's why I left a job at a big law firm for a career in public service, "...

Well, let's look at the facts:

Apparently things have really changed since Mamie Eisenhower had to shell out the salary for her personal secretary.

How things have changed! If you’re one of the tens of millions of Americans facing certain destitution, earning less than subsistence wages stocking the shelves at Wal-Mart or serving up McDonald cheeseburgers, prepare to scream and then come to realize that the benefit package for these servants of Miz Michele are the same as members of the national security and defense departments and the bill for these assorted lackeys is paid by John Q. Stupid is as Stupid Does

With absolute power, Team Obama grows stupid

By: Michael Barone
Senior Political Analyst
February 10, 2010

(AP photo)

How could such smart people do so many stupid things? That question, or variations on it, is being asked in Washington and around the country about the Obama administration.

The same people who directed the campaign that defeated Hillary Clinton and routed John McCain, a campaign that raised far more money and attracted far more volunteers than any before it, have within a year come up with a legislative program that is crashing in ruins and that, to judge from recent polls, has left the Democratic party weaker than I have seen it in almost 50 years of closely following politics.

Obama's new pick: Gov. of state that linked Christians, violence

OBAMA WATCH CENTRAL

Missouri report tied 'domestic terrorists' with opposition to abortion, immigration

Missouri Gov. Nixon

President Obama has picked to advise him on military actions inside the U.S. the Missouri governor whose state "Information Analysis Center" last year linked conservative organizations to domestic terrorism and said law enforcement officers should watch for suspicious individuals who may have bumper stickers from Ron Paul or Chuck Baldwin.

Missouri Gov. Jeremiah Nixon, a Democrat, is being joined on the Obama's special advisory panel by the governor of Puerto Rico, Luis Fortuno, and Arizona Gov. Janice Brewer, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano's replacement when she moved to Washington.

They are among Obama's nominations for the 10 positions on Obama's new "Council of Governors" that he will use for advice on "military activities in the United States."

Game Change in Massachusetts

The People of Massachusetts Are Taking Back Their Seats

by Mike LaChance

The Scott Brown revolution is alive and well in Massachusetts.

Tuesday night, January 26th at 7:00 when most people would like to be home relaxing after work, almost 500 average citizens from Massachusetts packed a convention hall in the Boston suburb of Braintree. They shared some common interests. They’re either running for office or helping someone else run for office. Some of them are running for federal or state offices, some for seats in local towns and cities and some for school boards. The one sentiment they share is clear: They’ve had enough.

The Crowd

A capacity crowd!

The event they showed up for was a “candidate school” offered by Boston talk radio host Michael Graham of 96.9 WTKK, a man the Boston Phoenix dubbed “Boston’s maestro of conservative controversies.” In between his tenure at WTKK and a career in stand-up comedy, Graham ran political campaigns. Today, he is sharing his knowledge with the citizens of the Bay State and encouraging them to participate in the system.

Attendees included people like Francis McLaughlin, a retired Boston fire fighter and registered Republican since 1975. McLaughlin is running for the Massachusetts House of Representatives for specific reasons:

“The Massachusetts legislature is totally ineffective. They’re not protecting children from predators, taxes are too high and there are way too many entitlements.”

Another attendee was Vernon Harrison, an “Independent Republican” who works in the computer industry and is planning a run for congress.

“I’m tired of the size, scope and spending of government. I also think people are tired of self serving career politicians.”

Potential candidates weren’t limited to Republicans. Marty Hogan of South Boston is a Democrat who’s gearing up for his second run for Boston City Council.

“Boston is not getting any better for Bostonians and we need real transparency. We need to return the seats to the people.”

The panel of speakers arranged by Michael Graham included every political persuasion. Holly Robichaud, a Republican strategist who blogs at the Boston Herald website as “The Lone Republican” gave a step by step explanation of a political campaign and former Boston City Councilman Bruce Bolling, a Democrat, offered an inspiring call to public service based on his own experiences. Tea Party activist, Corie Whalen provided advice on social networking software and Dennis Corrigan, a Libertarian, broke down the do’s and don’ts of campaign finance law.

The Speakers

Whalen, Graham, Robichaud, Bolling and Corrigan.

Tebow's Ad Brings out Liberal Intolerance

Tebow's Super Bowl ad isn't intolerant; its critics are

Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, February 2, 2010

I'll spit this out quick, before the armies of feminism try to gag me and strap electrodes to my forehead: Tim Tebow is one of the better things to happen to young women in some time. I realize this stance won't endear me to the "Dwindling Organizations of Ladies in Lockstep," otherwise known as DOLL, but I'll try to pick up the shards of my shattered feminist credentials and go on

Tim Tebow's 30-second Super Bowl ad has already provoked plenty of criticism.
Tim Tebow's 30-second Super Bowl ad has already provoked plenty of criticism. (Dave Martin/associated Press)

As statements at Super Bowls go, I prefer the idea of Tebow's pro-life ad to, say, Jim McMahon dropping his pants, as the former Chicago Bears quarterback once did in response to a question. We're always harping on athletes to be more responsible and engaged in the issues of their day, and less concerned with just cashing checks. It therefore seems more than a little hypocritical to insist on it only if it means criticizing sneaker companies, and to stifle them when they take a stance that might make us uncomfortable.

I'm pro-choice, and Tebow clearly is not. But based on what I've heard in the past week, I'll take his side against the group-think, elitism and condescension of the "National Organization of Fewer and Fewer Women All The Time." For one thing, Tebow seems smarter than they do.

Tebow's 30-second ad hasn't even run yet, but it already has provoked "The National Organization for Women Who Only Think Like Us" to reveal something important about themselves: They aren't actually "pro-choice" so much as they are pro-abortion. Pam Tebow has a genuine pro-choice story to tell. She got pregnant in 1987, post-Roe v. Wade, and while on a Christian mission in the Philippines, she contracted a tropical ailment. Doctors advised her the pregnancy could be dangerous, but she exercised her freedom of choice and now, 20-some years later, the outcome of that choice is her beauteous Heisman Trophy winner son, a chaste, proselytizing evangelical.

Pam Tebow and her son feel good enough about that choice to want to tell people about it. Only, NOW says they shouldn't be allowed to. Apparently NOW feels this commercial is an inappropriate message for America to see for 30 seconds, but women in bikinis selling beer is the right one. I would like to meet the genius at NOW who made that decision. On second thought, no, I wouldn't.

Cont.

Angry voters track RINOs and incumbents

In his posturing as a pseudo-populist , Barack Obama has even been comparing himself to Scott Brown.

Not quite, Barry. It's the issues, not the public ire with incumbents that propelled Scott Brown into a senate seat held almost a century by a man who represented the exact opposite of Scott Brown's views.

Politics is more than personality, though at times it would not seem so.

January 31, 2010

By Henry Lambmuch

Barack Obama told reporters that he rode the same wave of public anger into office that brought Scott Brown into Ted Kennedy's Senate seat. Not quite. The wave of public anger that elected Scott Brown is focused on Barack Obama and the Congressional Democrats who are pushing his policies.

The public anger is more than justified. Both the President and Congress have turned a deaf ear to the expressed will of the people throughout the first year of the new administration. Even after the candidates Obama endorsed and campaigned for in Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts all lost convincingly, Democrat strategists are advising the leadership to "show character" by fighting even harder to impose government-controlled health care.

They would, were it not for the inconvenient fact that every Representative and 33 Senators must face the "angry public" at the polls this year.

All across the country, local, state, and national organizations are preparing to choose a new future for America. The future America wants is controlled by neither Democrats nor Republicans, but by elected officials who honor their pledge to "...preserve, protect, and defend" the U.S. Constitution.
